It sure seems to be taking the police a long time to release any info on this incident. Surely , that by now , they have a general idea of what occurred and the nature of the incident.
It seems they do have a general idea of what happened: group of girls arguing with a group of guys, someone in the guy's group pulled a gun and opened fire; 8 wounded (one critically last I heard); one pregnant woman who suffered some form of blunt trauma; no suspects as yet because of the sheer volume of people. They are asking for people in the vicinity to come forward with any info. However, large crowds tend to distort accurate accounts of the events.

Where did you see that men opened up on the women....
I've just read here

Could it have been a female opening up on men in self defense ?
Does Artest have an alibi?
I mean hey, here we are almost 24 hours later, and all they are saying is that eight people were shot last night. We knew that , last night.
They've not released anything new all day.
This headline makes it sound like they are considering whether to continue Thunder Alley watch parties after the home playoff games begin though there is no direct quote from someone saying that.

This is the article stating a group of girls got into a confrontation with a group of guys though the stories wording has changed in the last few hours.

Welcome to the new NBA. Four quarters of dance competition (Thunder Girls vs. the Laker Girls!) interrupted by brief displays of basketball.
Finish this sentence, 'I never leave home without _________'. 'Mascara, Cell phone and Pepper Spray' says Thunder Girl Hayley.
You have to dig for the rest. I'm sure they'll report what most of us have dug up at six. I guess it isn't "Breaking News" unless they actually catch the suspects.
With a little digging, we know the guy's name and that he is going to make it (Thank God).
It sounds like police will have to be on high alert for the duration of the playoffs. Thankfully there were no fatalities. But there sure could have been.
Thunder Alley is amazing, and a great atmosphere, as well as testament to OKC's loyalty to the Thunder. Hopefully the police can help keep it all under control so we can continue what has become one of the NBA's most awe-inspiring traditions.

Being from Vancouver, I'm more surprised when a shooting or riot DOESN'T happen after a playoff game.
I think it stands out because we really don't have these kinds of things happen that often compared to the more densely populated cities. Don't get me wrong, OKC has its share of violent crimes, gang activity, and of course what happened with the Murrah Building. But otherwise, people tend to be more laid back here. We've had huge crowds here for NCAA tournaments and conference tournaments without any large disturbances before. We've also had no real incidents of note throughout the playoffs until last night.
When you bring large throngs of people together like this, there is always potential for things to get out of hand.
Thankfully there were no casualties.
All that can be done is to beef up security and probably widen the police presence out to Bricktown. From all reports, Thunder Alley itself was under control minus a few minor incidents.
