    From ESPN:

    Why Weaver could be traded
    8:10
AM ETKyle Weaver | Thunder TopEmailThe Oklahoma City Thunder have 16 players under contract for next season after they signed free agent point guard Royal Ivey. Darnell Mayberry of The Oklahoman has some thoughts on what general manager Sam Presti might do.

Mayberry writes: "Byron Mullens, D.J. White and Kyle Weaver are the most likely candidates to be on the outside looking in. Mullens has shown the most development of the trio and, as an athletic 7-foot center, is a rare commodity that the Thunder isn't likely to throw away after only one season. White is another big man who can provide rebounding and court spacing with his mid-range shooting ability. And so it appears Weaver could be the last man standing, possibly squeezed out of a fast-developing roster. ... Even with 16 players signed, Oklahoma City sits more than $6 million below the $58.04 million salary cap. That kind of cap space is enough to afford the Thunder the opportunity to swap a 15th man for a future draft pick -- maybe even a first-rounder if OKC is willing to take back a sizeable contract."

Weaver is easy to trade because he's only scheduled to earn $935,484 next season and his contract does not become guaranteed until Aug. 2.

Just waive Weaver before August 2. Problem solved.

Not sure why we would trade Weaver and take on more salary for a guy that probably can't break into the 9 man rotation.

Really the only position we can upgrade, at this point, is C (over Nenad), and nobody will trade a decent C for Weaver.

I think he's suggesting we can get a pick rather than a player. That way we'd have more assets we can use to move up or get another center.

Right, but we'd have to take on salary to get a pick. Probably in the 3-6 million range. Essentially we'd be trading Weaver for a pick and 3-6 million in salary that we'd have to buy out before the start of the season.

I guess some team could really like Kyle Weaver enough to give up a 2nd rounder, but I doubt it. He hasn't shown anything and roster spots around the league are pretty tight this year.

Weaver's only value is that he can be waived before 8/2/2010 and teams are only interested if they can get rid of one of their players as well.

Yeah, I don't think Weaver is as good as Mustafa Shakur or Royal Ivey so I think he's gone.

You need to cut him before August 2nd, not before or after training camp.

Yeaaaaahhh, but he'll cost us $935,000 if we waive him in September. He'll cost us $0.00 if we waive him before August 2nd.

You do realize that August is before September, right?

    News and Notes
Jul 27 Oklahoma City is expected to waive Weaver before August 1 to prevent his 2010-2011 contract from becoming guaranteed, Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears reports.
Recommendation: Weaver spent most of his time in the D-League last season and averaged just 3.0 points in 12 games with the Thunder. If he can't find another NBA team to sign with, he could opt to play overseas. The Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv has reportedly already offered him a contract.
