I was just looking thru hoopshype.com's salary page and was wondering about this: What about this crazy trade idea????

    OKC gets
    Al Horford

    Atlanta gets
    Jeff Green
    Suns unprotected 2010 pick

Why it works for us: We get a true PF (in size and position). We get a high character guy in the process (Presti kind of guy).

Why it works for them: They get a SF/PF hybrid that plays PF and they get, possibly a high draft choice from the Phoenix pick. They could replace Horford with the draft pick since the next draft will probably be so PF-heavy.

If you're Atlanta, would you do this trade??????

Yes, b/c you make their position sound so good. I wish we had Jeff Green and the Suns unprotected 2010 pick. We would have a SF/PF guy with a chance next year to draft a true PF. What more could we want? Damn Atlanta's smart.

Of our core players, Jeff's name seems to come up the most in trade scenarios but I don't believe he'll be going anywhere.

Here's a little bit from an article in the Oklahoman today...

"We just feel like James Harden is our type of guy," Presti said. "Complete player. Great skill set. Really has a team-first mentality.

"There's some Jeff Green to his approach to the game."

That's all you need to know. Durant is and is going to be the star of this franchise. No telling how good Westbrook will be, and he's plenty good now.

But Green is the epitome of what Presti wants to build. An excellent player but blue-collar to the core. Willing to play out of position. Willing to play second chair to the prodigy, Durant. Willing to voluntarily come out on a hot summer day and sit on the sideline as Harden had his moment Saturday, introduced to OKC media and fans, supporting his new teammate.

The Thunder won't give much higher praise than comparisons to Jeff Green
    .

Jeff Green is the consummate Thunder player in Presti's eyes and the perfect example of the type of "high character guy" that the foundation of this franchise is being built on.

I don't believe Presti has any interest in trading him...

Yeah I saw that article too. Presti was really praising JG. Anyways, it was just a trade scenario. Its Sunday, a couple days after the draft, I'm bored and the forum seemed a little dead. I just needed to liven up the joint.

I understand you have to give something to get something and while I love JG on this team and Phoenix's pick is looking better and better by the day I can't see giving up both of those assets for any one player unless that player is a major asset. I love Al Horford and have talked numerous times on this forum about how much I'd enjoy seeing him work the post on our team, but the value would definitely be in Atlanta's favor on this trade. It's an interesting idea though, and when you factor in various details it makes sense in a lot of ways.

First, we already have so much young talent on the team I wonder sometimes how valuable these future picks will be in the long run. We already have 4 top-5 picks on the roster and each of them show promise as being franchise cornerstones.

Second, I think for what we need on this team Horford would be an upgrade to JG. Green embodies everything we all want and love on this team and it would be tough to see him go anywhere else, but Horford has so much potential to be a dominant PF in this league for the next 10 years. He's playing out of position in Atlanta and if he stays there he may have a subpar career due to it. He's a legit PF from a scoring and rebounding standpoint and has the potential to be an upper echelon defensive player if he was able to play against guys closer to his size.

Overall, I think JG and that pick is too much to give up for Horford and a lesser asset added with JG would be more reasonable. If you put a lineup of Westbrook, Hardin, Durant, Horford and one of the possible centers we have access to that would be a brutal lineup for the future. Not to mention already having guys like Livingston, Thabo, Weaver, and Ibaka, Krstic/Mullens/possibly Gortat on the roster for depth I don't know how much value these future 1st round picks really have for us. We already have a stacked young roster, so any pick is going to hold much more value to any other team than it does for us. Maybe it does make sense to give up more to get less, if that makes sense. We're already going to have issues trying to pay for all these guys.

It's definitely something I would ponder since Horford is the name in the mix. He's the most underrated PF prospect in the NBA as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think the Hawks would consider it unless they fail to re-sign Marvin Williams.

DAK!, Thank you! This is what I'm talking about. We are going to have to give up someone at some point. Whether it be Westbrook, Green, White, Weaver, Mullens, Ibaka, etc. We are amassing a dearth of young talent in a very short amount of time. While young talent is cheap, if the young players do pan out, eventually they will start asking for raises, and good young players get hefty raises. We will not be able to keep all of our good young players. KD will be a max player (and deserves to be a max player). Our main objective needs to be keeping KD. JG will be commanding at least 8-10 million a year, as will Russell Westbrook. That's already 75% of our cap space if we keep all 3 of these players in 2-3 years. Unless that core of 3 players develops into the Boston trio (Garnett, Pierce, Allen) or the Lakers trio (Bryant, Gasol, Odom), we will need other players to step in. Its not possible for us to keep all these young player. Prime example will be Portland. They amassed a whole crap load of talent in the last 3-4 years. Now, they will start paying the price and are nothing more than a 2nd round team in the mighty mighty West.
