That would be a good move. Presti apparently likes what he sees in BJ Mullens, which would be a good selection, IMO. The kid was projected top 3 out of high school and has shown some flashes. To me this would indicate we're going SG with our #3 pick, and so Harden/Curry/DeRozen/Evans will be in play....
Presti is very active. We are going to see alot of moves in this draft. With the luxury tax and teams trying to position themselves for the LeBron Sweepstakes in 2010 . . . there will be teams trying to dump payroll and or move down the draft to save money. There are very real scenarios that have the Thunder ending up with two lottery picks, neither of which being in the top 3.
If this comes to fruition: think about the aditional rookies we might have next year.
C - BJ Mullins
C/PF - Serge Ibaka (good chance he'll come over)
Guard - Rubio/Harden/Evans etc.
With 2 more potential lottery picks in 2010.
The 2010 season could have the following youth on our team
PG - Westbrook/ 2010 lottery pick
SG - Harden/ Weaver
SF - Durant/ Green
PF - Ibaka/ DJ White
C - BJ Mullins/ 2010 lottery pick

If the free agent targets of the Pistons are Paul Milsap and Ben Gordon, then I don't have a clue what's going on in Joe Dumars's head. If it's just Milsap, then I don't have a problem with it, but we have too many guards as it is right now to want Ben Gordon. Unless he trades Rip Hamilton, Joe needs to focus on the frontcourt.
As far as Amir Johnson goes, I'm not sure if you guys want him. I think last year he showed everyone that he's not as good as advertised.
Not as good as advertised? Possibly, but we don't know that for sure yet.
Are Amir Johnson and the 15th pick worth trading the 25th pick? Absolutely.
As to why Detroit would do this, it's a simple cost-cutting move and, as one of the teams that is well under the cap, we reap the benefits.
yea, if you guys can get BJ Mullens in mid-1st, it would be HUGE...I see that guy being one of the good ones some day..either a flop or perennial all-star....worth the risk for a mid-late first....
I don't know and don't care how good Amir Johnson is (I'll look it up now, but I couldn't even tell you what position he plays right now). He's just an expiring contract. Yup, this would be a total no-brainer. Take a flyer (for a year) on Amir (the guy's just 22-23) and get Mullens as well.
only problem is, mullens might be available at the #25 spot...pretty expensive gamble for $3.6M..daz three and a half million dollars of cold hard cash over the course of a 4-month season...i'd rather just place a bet on "red" in vegas, and take my chances with whomever i get at the #25, which might be mullens...
I haven't seen ANY mock drafts that show Mullen dropping to #25.
The only way this works according to the cba is if it includes adkins (and likely cash to release him). So if this goes through okc will draft a combo guard with the 3 or 15.
That said I like mullens more than thabeet. And I really like amir Johnson.
Right now, Atkins would have to be thrown in. However, July 1st is when both the Thunder and Pistons get all their cap room and the Thunder could absorb Amir's deal without giving up anyone. They would have the Pistons draft Mullens or whoever and then make the trade when the July moratorium is up.
Waiting until July is too risky a better deal might come along while waiting and the other team would be screwed.
Even doing Atkins for Johnson on draft night would still save them 3 million. Atkins only has an $800,000 guarantee.
I don't know why Dumars would do this. They used to LOVE Amir Johnson, they liked him so much he was untouchable. Maybe Dumars has given up on him but he's still just 22 years old.
