J.R. Smith facing traffic charges from fatal crash

FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP)—Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith is due to appear in a New Jersey municipal court next week to face traffic summonses stemming from a car crash that killed a friend in 2007.

A Monmouth County grand jury in October declined to indict the New Jersey native on vehicular homicide charges that could have carried a jail term.

Police say Smith drove his SUV around a stopped car at a stop sign and into the path of an oncoming car in Millstone in June 2007. His friend, Andre Bell, was killed in the crash. Smith sprained his left shoulder.

The former star at Lakewood High School and St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark is due in Millstone Municipal Court on Jan. 13.

Smith has since had two more speeding tickets and three license suspensions in New Jersey.

Send his ass to jail. While an accident is an accident (even if it was his fault), the worst crime is someone who does not learn from their felonious mistakes. Since he is showing a pattern of indifference towards the law, I bet a couple months in the state penn would curb that real quick. Then his other cell mates can tell him, "Let me see you clap your hands...." I get tired of athletes and celebrities getting the easy treatment, when they would throw my ass in jail quick, fast, and in a hurry for the same offense. Lady Justice is blind, but peeks from time to time to see who she is prosecuting.

Rican, that's the traffic accident from last year. I haven't heard of J.R getting into another one.

He hasn't gotten into an accident but according to the last sentence of the article, he has since had 2 speeding tickets and had his license suspended 3 times. Dude is dumb.

Read the entire article Tram. And then read what I am trying to say. While a car accident can happen to anyone, whether negligent or not, learning from the experience should be the biggest factor. If you get in a car accident that kills someone for wanting to overpass a car and crossing into on-coming traffic, that is a huge mistake. But for you to continue to drive a car (with a suspended lisence nonetheless) and get multiple speeding tickets shows that you have utter disregard for the law and no remorse for the mistake you committed earlier in your life.

What a major a-hole. "Yeah, I was directly responsible for someone dying, but its a relief I get to play basketball." Wow, you and Leonard Little belong in the vehicular manslaughter hall of fame.
