View Full Version : Maybe we are still "sneaking up"

I've read here often that we won't be sneaking up on anyone this year. If that were true, shouldn't we be mentioned in this conversation?

If it seems like the Lawrence O'Brien trophy is being monopolized, it's because it's true. Only eight teams have won it the last 30 years, six more than once.

By comparison, 12 teams are still pressing their nose against the window, wondering if they'll ever get inside.

Not everyone can be the Lakers and Celtics, Spurs and Pistons, Bulls and Rockets, teams that enjoyed a toast or two in their lifetimes. Almost half the NBA never won a championship, and for a good many of those teams, the brass ring still looks beyond reach.

For sure, a handful of those teams haven't been around very long, but that never stopped the Bucks from winning in their third season (thank you, Lew Alcindor, and the lucky coin flip) and the Blazers in their seventh year (bravo, Big Red).

Is their time coming soon? Depends on the team. Let's just say Orlando is optimistic while the Bobcats at least get to see their owner's championship jewelry once in a while.

Here are the Desperate Dozen and their chances of snatching the elusive prize.

I think they are counting the Sonics' 1979 championship as ours, even though I don't agree with that.

:o That's funny. You're right, but it never even occurred to me. I think that for every day that goes by, the Thunder gets farther from the Sonics in my mind.
