We're in the playoffs. What do you expect...

You're here talking to a small fraction of a percentage of the 18300 people that chant in the ford center. Not sure if you're message is going to go very far.

How about a new one "We Beat L.A."

Chelfspace

Classier than "L.A. SUX".

We just won the first EVER playoff game to be played in OKC. I don't think the chant is going to die for a long time.

Hey, we chant Beat L.A. whenever we play a Los Angeles team here in Seattle. It's not small time nor past its prime

I guess that I don't understand ... what's wrong with the fans shouting "Beat LA?" Seems pretty natural and OK to me.

Agreed Doug. This topic is the dumbest post I've ever seen on here. And that's saying something.

After the game , we left our seats, and when we got to the concourse .........everyone there was chanting " beat LA " ........... that may have been one of the coolest things I've ever been a part of.

Not just 18,300. I think the Beat L.A. chant is pretty standard evrywhere. I think you're going to need quite a campaign to stamp it out. I don't see it happening before Saturday.

Well I too am in the minority. I think the chant is not original nor funny or even clever.
Can't we come up with our own chant to recognize OUR team? Quit paying homage to the competition. I agree it gets the crowd boiling but what if the USA hockey team had heard Beat Russia instead of feeding off of U S A.

Someone earlier had suggested O K C with the same rhythm as Beat LA. What we gonna chant when we face Phoenix or Denver or whomever? Lets be original, its in our heritage to be pioneers, earn our own and do things the Oklahoma way. Lots of other arenas do the Beat LA chant let 'em; lets start a new tradition.

Go THUNDER !!!

Good luck with that. It's not going to change this series. Plus, everyone hates LA, so it's an easy chant. It's like OU fans throwing down the longhorns (although we don't chant beat LA when we are playing Milwaukee). That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the chant. It unifies the crowd and makes it loud. Let's worry about doing just what the chant says and then you can write us a chant for the next round.

Maybe we need to yell "Thunder UP!" or "O. K. C. Rocks!" or ... (fill in your idea here). :rumble:

I don't like the chant to Beat L.A. Doesn't mean that I wouldn't yell it if I were in the Ford. I agree we need to come up with something different, to show the world our creative genius.

Much like in politics, if you don't vote, you can't complain. So, maybe we need a thread of chant ideas, and we can start new traditions. The angry mob mentality will spread like a fire, if it is clear, concise, and yelled at a suitable volume by a rabid group of ... say, OKCThunderFans? :okc:

Maybe we should stop the "MVP" chant too. LA does it for Kobe, Cleveland does it for LeBron, PHX does it for Nash, etc. Maybe we should chant "Best Player in the League" or "Most Important Athlete", you know, show our creativity. Also, I'm over the DE FENSE chant. Every team does that. After the two drum beats, we should say "Stop Them" or "No Points". Again, show our creativity. ((((END SARCASM)))) Listen, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. That chant was great tonight at the game. By far the most fun NBA game I've ever been to. Let's have fun Saturday and try not to re-invent the wheel by coming up with a chant that doesn't work. All of that said, I have always wondered why we don't do an O K C chant.

Shouting "Beat LA" is a lot easier and quicker to the point than shouting "Beat Los Angeles Lakers." Saves reserve lung/shouting power, too.

So, what if the chant is not original nor funny or even clever? It doesn't need to be if it represents what is in the fans' mind/emotional systems. Apparently, it did. At least, it seemed to fit on this night.

Say what you will about "Beat L.A." The real problem is the "M-V-P" chant, because a bunch of our fans have no idea when to do it. You don't make noise when one of your players is shooting a free throw while the outcome of the game is still in question. It's moronic to start doing it in the first half, especially when we're losing. It's stupid to do it when we're only up by 3 late in the fourth quarter.

Most of the OKC fans are new to the NBA game, and this team didn't exactly come with a field reference manual :p

I'm all for the "M-V-P" chant, just not in the 1st quarter. Especially when we're down 12 points in the 1st quarter. Double especially when we're down 12 points in the 1st quarter and down 2-0 in the series.

I've seen posters here tell us too many times what they think is proper protocol, and then I see the exact opposite done in arenas from Staples to the Garden.

If there's an official NBA fan guide, then most of the NBA fans don't know about it.

I was in the arena,15 rows from the floor, thank you.
I recorded the game and was going through it and heard the chant. Not good is all I am gonna say.

I will say this though. It did get pretty loud in there and overall the loudest thunder game I have been to.

You can't yell MVP when Durant only has 9 points in the first half. We have to be leading and he has to be the leading scorer.

You had 18000+ chanting in unison with no practice. Even church choirs practice once a week, and they're divine. Give us a couple practices, and I'm pretty sure, by Game 6, we'll have the "Beat LA" chant to your liking.

Orrrrrrrr.......

If you don't like how it sounded on TV, you could always mute that part of the game and play some Yani....or some John Tesh....or Bjork....or whatever the hell you want to hear at that time.

If there's an official NBA fan guide, then most of the NBA fans don't know about it.There are fans who do stupid things in every city. Proper protocol is that fans should not engage in behavior that may negatively affect the outcome of the game. It shouldn't take an official NBA fan guide for people to realize that it's a terrible idea to make noise while your team is shooting free throws in a game that is still in question.

Yes, I agree ............ it just takes some good sense of the game.

Yeah, I believe it was in Boston I saw people doing "The Wave". Weren't we told that was completely passe and that it showed we were NBA newbies by doing it?

Personally, I think the Wave is a pain in the neck, but Rumble usually starts it and if people enjoy, what the heck.

And, I wouldn't mind something cleverer than "Beat LA" but it "has a good beat and it's easy to dance to" (if you know what I'm quoting, you're old like me:))

I still think the wave is stupid when the game is in the balance, as do I feel that "MVP" when we're down 10 and our star is playing sub par is kind of ill timed as it could potentially affect his shot (though not likely). But the "beat LA" is actually pretty standard everywhere and has quite a history to it. Add to it that it's our first playoff appearance, and it's against the evil empire; I think it's completely warranted and fitting. Yelling "boomer" in the concourse after last nights game is much worse then any of that stuff though (which did happen last night; I yelled "Thunder" right back in the guys face).

On tv it sounds small time and past it's prime. Seriously.

small time is your ass watching it on tv. The NBA says it is part of the playoff picture, every team in the last 8 years that has played LA has printed Beat LA shirts and encouraged the chant. OKC is actually the first team to NOT print their own shirts, and NBA was disappointed.
Nothing is small time in ThunderDome! If it was Chicago I guarantee you would not say it sounds small time on TV.
