The #OKCTHUNDER has signed Mustafa Shakur to a 10-day contract. To make room for him, the team has released Antonio Anderson.

kind of an odd move. I mean the prevailing thought was Anderson was just a practice guy. The signing of Shakur makes me think something is up. Shakur is a point guard.
Is someone hurt?!

Thunder Signs Shakur
March 16th, 2010
The Thunder announced on Tuesday that it has signed guard Mustafa Shakur to a 10-day contract, marking the organization’s first call-up from the Tulsa 66ers, its NBA D-League affiliate.
We should be able to speak to Shakur after today’s practice, so stay tuned. In the meantime, here’s what the team’s press release had on him:
Shakur is a free agent call-up from the Tulsa 66ers, NBA Development League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder. At the time of his call-up the 2010 D-League All-Star was averaging 20.7 points (9th in the D-League) while shooting 50.3% from the floor (295-587 FG), 7.2 assists (4th in D-League), 2.3 steals (3rd in D-League) and 39.4 minutes in 40 games (40 starts).

A 6-3, 190 pound guard who went undrafted out of the University of Arizona in 2007, Shakur spent the previous three seasons playing overseas with Prokom Trefl Sopot of the Polish League (2007-08), Tau Cerámica of ACB Spanish League (2008-09) and most recently with Panellinios BC of the Greek A1 League (2009).

With his signing, Shakur becomes the 24th Gatorade Call-Up from the D-League this season. He will wear uniform #11.

My thoughts exactly. :D I almost didn't have him sign my basketball but I didn't want to be rude since he was sitting at a table with 2 other players.

I was a little embarrassed because he was sitting between Byron Mullens and Kyle Weaver at the Season Ticket party. I had Byron and Kyle sign my ball But when Antonio reached for the ball, I handed him the itinerary card to sign.

with Harden out and Weaver not really in the grove yet, this is a smart move

He's pretty good at both but my guess is the 2. When Sefolosha comes out we can have that higher offense needed now that Harden can't play.

It was uncomfortable but nothing personal. I didn't think a ten day belonged on the ball. However, I'm assuming that he feels worse about being released than about not signing my ball.

Wonder if the organization is trying to infuse hope in D League players. Auditions, of a sort. It's Mustafa's turn.
That's probably not it, but even if they return to the 66ers, they or others could get called up for an audition/review of progress 10-day stint.

I'm thinking with Eric and Russell playing at the same time, and their time on the floor grows, if one should get hurt or tired that Mustafa Shakur would be a good option, until James Harden comes back.

I believe you can't sign a player to more than 2 10-day contracts in a season. For Anderson, it was either sign him for the rest of the season or release him.

I always liked him when he played at Arizona. I hope he can do some damage on this level.

I'm not sure. Maybe it was an availability issue?

You know that he's just sitting in a hotel room right now going, "First that guy with the basketball, and now THIS!" :D
You know that is kind of embarrassing and a situation I wouldn't want to be in, but you can't blame a fan if they don't want a certain player to sign something. Who knows what intent a fan has for something. Honestly, at this point I wouldn't want Weaver's autograph either (I personally don't want anybody's autograph as I think the entire thing is stupid for adults). I really like Weaver as a player and hope he progresses into a good role player for many years, but he hasn't done anything in the league yet to warrant an autograph. Anderson had no business being at that table and it's not a slam on him. It's just a fact that he wasn't a part of the team yet. It was basically a late season training camp and audition and they rarely work out.
As far as Shakur goes I remember several months ago watching one of the D-League games with Mullens in it and thinking to myself that Shakur would be a very good insurance for the club and was curious if he was in the plans at all. He's easily the best player on the team, when D.J. White wasn't down there, and is the best prepared to contribute to the team at whatever position he's asked to play. I must be missing something because I've been surprised for awhile that nobody had picked him up on at least a 10 day.

So, where is Antonio now? Does he go back to Tulsa?

He never played for Tulsa. He played for the Rio Grand Valley Vipers, which is a bit ironic because that is the last team Tulsa played. We just lost a double header to the Vipers, but Shakur averaged 24.5 points and 8.5 assists in those two games.

I'm of the same school of thought on autographs. I really don't care about getting anyone's autograph. I'd be more for getting a picture taken with a player. however, at the season ticket party, I did get a couple of autographs simply because there was nothing else to do really. I thought, hell I'm here I might as well stand in line and get an autograph. I did get KD's on a picture

We'll find out by Friday. He likely will if for nothing else, being another practice player.
