View Full Version : Thabo needs more shots.

I would like to see Thabo get a few plays drawn up for him.
I think he could be a good offensive player as well as a defensive player. Needs more shot attempt.
I can't disagree with this. I think he holds himself back and just lets the offense come to him. If he's wide open then he'll take the shot but for some reason the offense just rarely flows through him. I'd like to see him be a bit more agressive either driving to the hole or fighting off screens for pop up shots rather than being the guy always setting teammates up. Maybe that's his role in the offense and that's how Brooks wants it, or maybe he's just not taking shots when he has them, who knows. He's shooting a really good percentage from both the field and behind the arc, but he's just not shooting enough. I'd like to see about 10 shots a game from him as he's only shooting about 5 right now.

If Thabo takes more shots, then who is taking less shots: Durant, Green, or Westbrook? As a starter he's the fifth option on the floor, and he's pretty much never a first or second option in any other five-man unit the Thunder puts on the floor. Thabo has shot really well this season, but we're only five games into the season. He has 26 FGA so far; that is such a ridiculously small sample to judge him on, and it's easily outweighed by three seasons worth of terrible shooting. Maybe Thabo has turned the corner with his shooting, but right now it's too soon to say, let alone take 5 more shots a game away from players that have proven to be more efficient scorers.

I usually agree with most everything you have to say, but 5 extra shots a game isn't that much. Roughly 1 shot extra per quarter isn't going to kill anyone. What does though is 3-15 shooting performances. I would agree that this is a small sample to choose from and there are plenty of previous seasons to say he just flat out isn't a good shooter, but it's been reported plenty that he spent all offseason improving his shot and through the first 5 games, so far, it looks like it's working. If he completely falls off the wagon and reverts back to previous years then there's no problem in shutting him down, but in the meantime when he's shooting 50% from the field and better than that from 3 I see no reason not to give him a few more chances to get a bucket. Our main stars have had some horrendous shooting nights and they've had some really good ones, but Krstic is shooting 4-20 in his last 3 games, Green, even though he's shot well up to last night, went 3-15, and KD has had several poor shooting performances.
Nobody is saying that Thabo needs to be one of our top 3 scoring options, but he's one of the few guys on the team that hasn't had a bad shooting night, so I don't see the problem with rewarding him with a few more shots and taking them away from the guy that is blatantly off that game.

also, if Thabo is chucking up more shots thats gonna have defenders chasing him around opening some one else or at the least a lane for a quick pass or a defensive rebounder out of position.
I've really watched/focused on him a lot thus far this season both @ the Ford & on television; to me his shot is quicker and his feet seem to be in better position, ala getting good looks. Four offensive threats on the floor at one time & even five if Krstic is on the "d" has to spread out or try double teaming.
If the rotations begin to get tweaked then Coach Brooks has all sorts of options; unless Scott has not seen enough improvement in practices to give Thabo the green light its time to let Stopalosha fire away.
Go THUNDER !!!

Once James Harden turns the corner, this makes Thabo attractive trade bait as well....just in case :)
We still got Kyle Weaver after all :)

We just signed Thabo to an extension. I doubt we'd do that with any intent in trading him. We got him locked up for a few years at a very respectable price for a defensive specialist.

K Weaver will NOT be on this Thunder squad next season. Trade "bait" in Jan Feb. Don't think he's long for the Thunder Blue unless his Rookie contract prevents trading.

If this is the case I'm curious how much, if any at all, value he has. He's proven he's a versatile guard who can do multiple things well but nothing great, which is something that's always valued in this league, but I'm afraid he doesn't have enough time on his resume to expect much in return for him. Even if he spends most of his time developing in the D-League I think he has more value to us than most other teams.
