TP: You signed Byron Scott to a contract extension last offseason. How do you assess the job Byron Scott has done this year, and is his job safe for another year?

SHINN: That's a loaded question. I haven't sat down with all my basketball people to go through all those things. A lot of teams in this league would say they're very happy to have won 49 games. What has happened with the fact we've had injuries the way we have and our coaching staff has won 49 games is good. I can't complain because we haven't had our team at full strength. Everyone will be analyzed and evaluated in the offseason. I'm analyzed every day. During the summer, we have to go back, dissect and try to make the best, most intelligent decisions we can to move forward. That's what we plan to do.

Don't think I'd call that answer high praise .

It reads to me as just a stock answer. Nothing more nor less. Shinn would be a fool to think of letting Scott go.

If he is available however, The Pistons should call him up immediately.

Scott isn't to blame for this unraveling, at least not primarily...big contracts for Peja, Mo Pete, Posey, Bobby Jackson, etc. undid this team. Plus alot of injuries each year except last season, which was not coincedentally their most successful season. Another overlooked change is no Jannero Pargo this year. He was a very adequate backup to CP. This year, they have nothing to fall back on if he is out of the game. Bower destroyed this team with those back breaking contracts. Funny how local sports media types were praising him here when he made a few of those signings when they were still in OKC. Sports people around here know so little about NBA basketball, it's sad.

Scott is too blame for the signing of Peja and Bobby and the drafting of Hilton and Cedric Simmons. Scott had a boner for Peja and Bobby since their days with the Kings and being teammates with Peja in Greece. Scott fell in love with Hilton and Cedric on the very first day of pre-draft workouts in 06, they never considered anyone else after that first day.

Bower is to blame for letting Byron have too much influence on personnel decisions.

FWIW, Charles Barkley said after the Lakers/Jazz game that the Hornets basically quit in the game on Monday and he very strongly hinted Coach Scott should get fired.

I think if the Hornets implode again in game 5, that could likely happen. It wouldn't be the first time a playoff coach got fired for underachieving.

And Shinn is to blame for allowing Bower to spend his money in such a manner. He should know his own business better than that.

BJax was a bad signing but at least his contract is up this year. They just made the problem worse by trading him for Mike James' deal and then turning it into Daniels, who isn't up until 2010 and thus makes them a tax payer.

Also, why sign Mo Pete for the full MLE when you could've had Brown for the small exception? As it it right now, Brown is playing and contributing more and his contract only calls for the minimum.

Take away Daniels and Mo Pete and you are under the tax.
