View Full Version : Shaq to retire -- in 2010?
Apparently he's going to play out the rest of his contract then call it a career. Thoughts?

He should have retired 2 years ago.

Agreed. These older players embarrass themselves by playing beyond when they should. I would hope they've saved some of the money they've earned, and aren't doing it because they need to. If it's for love of the game, then I suppose we can cut them a bit of slack. But, if makes it really difficult for the GM and the fans, who have to keep players around or support them more out of a sense of guilt or entitlement than because they help the team

Good! He just gets more annoying the longer he goes. Way past his prime, but I can see him making an ill-fated and embarrasing come back someday too. He just likes the spotlight way too much.

I think we'll see a return of "Celebrity Cop" somewhere myself. He said he wanted to get into law enforcement after he retired.
And the thing is, I think Shaq 2008 is akin to an anchor on a speedboat. All he does is slow down a very fast team. I think he doesn't fit their style and, unfortunately (Suns are one of my faves after the Thunder and yes, Clips) I think he signals the end of the Suns' run in the West. Hope I'm wrong, though. I think the future in the West is the Jazz and Blazers. Maybe the Hornets but I'm not as sure there.
